Bryson DeChambeau advances to championship round of long drive world championship

Bryson DeChambeau advanced with ease on Thursday to the championship round of the Professional Long Drivers of America World Championships in Mesquite, Nev., after finishing in a tie for fourth place. DeChambeau in making the cut will play in the final day of competition slated for Friday against the other 15 golfers left standing in the event.

DeChambeau, the No. 7 ranked player in the World Golf Rankings, won his first set in the Round of 32 on Thursday by blasting one 358 yards. He also won his fourth set with a long drive of 333 yards which ultimately secured him a spot in the championship round with a top-eight finish in his group.

Facing a brutal headwind, DeChambeau was unable to match some of the gaudy driving numbers he put up earlier in the week when he drove it 412 and accounted for four 400-plus yard drives on the first day. He finished among the top eight in his 16-man group, though, putting him in position to compete on Friday for the championship.
