Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray headline Friday night Indian Wells session
British duo Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray will headline the action at the BNP Paribas Open on Friday night.
All eyes will be on 18-year-old Raducanu this week as she makes her first competitive appearance since triumphing at the US Open last month.
As for Murray, British tennis fans will continue to follow the former world No.1’s quest to return to his best following injury as he makes his first appearance at Indian Wells since 2017.
But for now, Raducanu is the golden girl of British tennis and she begins her Indian Wells journey on Friday night against Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
Raducanu enters the tournament as the 17th seed and earned a bye into the second round where the world No. 100 Sasnovich awaits after she downed Maria Camila Osorio in straight sets.
While the exact timing of Raducanu and Murray’s matches are yet to be confirmed, organisers have announced the pair will begin their campaigns in the Friday evening session.
Day sessions begin at 11am local time (7pm BST) and the night sessions start at 6pm local (2am BST).
This means Raducanu and Murray will most likely play in the early hours of Saturday morning for British fans hoping to tune into the action.
Murray is hoping he can improve on his recent showings on American soil having exited at the first round of the US Open by losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas, and suffering a second round straight-sets loss to Norway’s Casper Ruud at the San Diego Open last month.
The 34-year-old enters Indian Wells as a wildcard having dropped outside the world’s top 100 following his long-standing hip injury, but feels he shouldn’t be made to ‘feel bad’ about the invites to major tournaments.
