Andy Murray reunited with stolen wedding ring and trainers after mishap at Indian Wells

Andy Murray’s wedding ring and tennis shoes have been recovered after they were stolen in California, putting him ‘back in the good books’ at home.

Earlier this week, while preparing to compete at the Indian Wells tournament, the British tennis star’s ring and shoes went missing after he left them underneath his car overnight to get some air.

As a tradition, the three-time Grand Slam winner attaches his wedding band to the laces of his trainers when playing, but he hadn’t realised his costly error until it was too late.

Following a public plea on social media to find his stolen ring, in which he jokingly said he was ‘in the bad books at home’, he can now continue his preparations for Indian Wells while ‘back in the good books’ of his wife, Kim Sears.

‘I just want to send a quick message to say a huge thanks for all the messages and also to everyone for sharing the story about the shoes and the wedding ring,’ said Murray in an Instagram post on Thursday.

‘[I] had to make a few calls today and chat to the security at the hotel and everything.

‘Little update for everyone – would you believe it, they still absolutely stink but the shoes are back, the wedding ring is back and I’m back in the good books. Let’s go.’

Explaining the incident on his Instagram page on Wednesday, Murray said: ‘Last night after dinner I got back in the car to go back to the hotel and the car didn’t smell great.

‘Basically, I’d left my tennis shoes in there. it’s been 39 degrees so my tennis shoes are pretty damp, sweaty.

‘So I decided when I got back to the hotel that the shoes needed some air, I needed to dry them out a little bit. I have no balcony in my room and I didn’t want to leave them in my room…
