Thomas Tuchel says it’s been a ‘pleasure’ to manage Jorginho at Chelsea and believes the midfielder deserves to add the Ballon d’Or to his UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award.
Jorginho, 29, played a key role in the Blues’ Champions League success last season before triumphing with Italy at this summer’s European Championships.
Chelsea were heavily represented as Ballon d’Or candidates were announced on Friday, with N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Cesar Azpilicueta and Romelu Lukaku also in contention to claim the prestigious prize.
Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Kevin De Bruyne are some of the other big names included on the star-studded 30-man shortlist.
Speaking at Gazzetta dello Sport’s annual Festivo Dello Sport in Trento, Italy, Tuchel played down the significance of individual awards, arguing that it was ‘impossible’ to make a ‘real comparison’ between the world’s best players.
But the Chelsea head coach suggested Jorginho would be a deserving winner should he come out on top at next month’s glitzy ceremony in Paris.
