Brentford manager Thomas Frank believes Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen is ‘almost the complete package’ and ‘one of the best defenders in the world’.
Frank worked with Christensen while he was in charge of Denmark’s youth teams and has been impressed by his development at Stamford Bridge.
Christensen, 25, has made 135 appearances for Chelsea since joining the club’s academy in 2012, winning the Champions League and Europa League during his spell in west London.
The centre-back has started five of Chelsea’s seven Premier League matches so far this season and both of the club’s Champions League fixtures, and will hope to help the Blues beat Frank’s Brentford on Saturday when they visit the Community Stadium.
‘At the moment, he is one of the best defenders in the world,’ Frank told Danish outlet Bold when asked about Christensen.
‘He has always been enormously intelligent on the pitch, meaning very quick to anticipate all situations offensively and defensively.
‘He is technically hugely strong for a defender in terms of bringing the ball forward, passing and making good choices.
‘He is also foresighted and fast at the same time, so it’s almost the complete package.’
Chelsea are sitting top of the Premier League table ahead of Saturday’s short trip to Brentford, with 2020 champions Liverpool in second and defending champions Manchester City in third.
Premier League new boys Brentford, meanwhile, are seventh having only lost one of their seven league games following promotion from the Championship.
Christensen fell out of favour at Chelsea during Frank Lampard’s reign as manager but has come back into the reckoning under Thomas Tuchel and last week hinted he was close to signing a new deal with the Blues.
