I respect Alexander Zverev, he is a great player
Former world No. 1 Andy Murray insists he respects Alexander Zverev and he thinks the German is a great tennis player. Zverev has had a big summer, winning gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics and also capturing his fifth Masters title in Cincinnati.
“I respect Sascha. He is a great tennis player who has had sensational months, winning many titles and showing himself in good shape. Personally, I would not say that we are best friends. We don’t really chat much on the circuit.
About the investigation of the ATP on Alexander Zverev the only thing I can say is that they have taken a while to do this act,” Murray said of Zverev, per Punto de Break. The ATP launched an investigation into Zverev over the domestic abuse claims his ex-girlfriend made against him.
“I think now you have to try to look at the positives of what’s come from that and, yes it’s taken a little bit too long, but now there is going to be a process in place and protocols in place when allegations like that are made,” Murray said after the investigation was launched last week.
Murray confident in his abilities
Murray, now ranked at No. 121 in the world, has had two major hip surgeries since 2017. In 2019, Murray made it all the way in Antwerp and that has been his lone title since 2017. “To be honest, I think I can win tournaments again.
I know I have tennis to do good results against the best players on the circuit. Nothing has happened recently that has changed this thinking, except the match against Denis Shapovalov at Wimbledon , where I was far from my best tennis.
Otherwise, there is nothing in any of the matches I have played since that makes me doubt that I can still win titles,” Murray insisted.
