Qualifiers for the next Fifa World Cup are already underway, with some impressive scores seen across the board.

England are just one win away from securing their place in the competition, despite drawing with Hungary in their last qualifying fixture.

And there have also been talks of the prominent sporting event happening once every two years, instead of the current four.

The tournament is still scheduled to take place as planned, despite the pandemic.

Read on to find out when the next World Cup is and where it’s being hosted.

When is the next World Cup?

The next Fifa Men’s World Cup is taking place in 2022, from November 21 to December 18.

The Fifa Women’s World Cup will follow soon after in the summer of 2023, lasting a month from July 20 to August 20.

There are four years in between each World Cup tournament.

Normally, there are two years between the European Championships (Euros) and the World Cup. However, due to the pandemic pushing the former back by a year, there is now a mere one-year gap.

Where will the 2022 World Cup take place?

Qatar has been given the opportunity to host the exciting event, but this does mean fans hoping to attend the matches will see some changes.

While the tournament usually takes place in summer, as the dates reflect, it will be a winter World Cup.

This is to avoid the soaring temperatures that the city sees in warmer months, which would make playing and spectating the sport rather uncomfortable.

The country has eight venues, across five locations, planned to host the matches.

Al-Rayyan has three venues, while the city’s capital Doha has two. Lusail, Al Khor, and Al Wakrah have one each. Lusail will also be hosting the final match.

The stadiums can hold anywhere between 40,000 to 80,000 fans.
