Kevin Nash Discusses Nepotism and The Kliq in Wrestling

WWE Hall of Fame inductee Kevin Nash has spoken out against nepotism in wrestling and the effect groups like The Kliq had on his career. During an episode of his podcast “Kliq This,” Nash talked about the advantages of being a part of wrestling dynasties or elite groups within the industry.

“There’s been perceived nepotism for decades upon decades in professional wrestling when you get into it and see it, especially when I broke into the business,” Nash said. “If you weren’t with certain cliques of guys, you weren’t getting pushed.

If you weren’t somebody that was brought in by the booker, you weren’t getting pushed”. The New World Order founding member and former WWE champion also detailed how alliances like The Kliq—which included Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and others often secured multiple titles or gained significant backstage power.

“One thing about The Kliq is we always knew there was strength in numbers,” he said. “If you got the championship match, IC (Intercontinental) match, and tag belts all in this vehicle, there is a pretty good chance you got some stroke”.

This elevated position behind the scenes helped cement members’ legacies as top stars during their time and set up future generations to follow suit. Randy Orton and Roman Reigns are among today’s biggest stars born into wrestling families and have continued to benefit from faction-based structures throughout their ascent.

Nash even mentioned newer examples like Bray Wyatt’s Wyatt Sicks stable, admitting that he doesn’t anticipate any group having as much success as The Kliq did at this point in history. His words come at a time when pro wrestling still changes so much yet clings to its past as tight as ever on anyone’s road to becoming a star.

Although his days inside the squared circle may be behind him for now, Kevin Nash’s voice remains powerful thanks to fans and insiders alike trying to make sense of what it…
