Alexander Zverev suffers another loss to Francisco Cerundolo
Like a year ago, Francisco Cerundolo defeated Alexander Zverev in the Madrid Masters fourth round. The Argentine defetaed the German 7-5, 6-3 in an hour and 29 minutes, maintaining a perfect score against world no. 2 after three duels!
Francisco notched his 23rd win of the season, standing one behind Carlos Alcaraz and Alex de Minaur. On the other hand, Alexander experienced another setback following the Australian Open final loss, hitting the exit door at one of his favorite tournaments.
Zverev missed an early break chance in the opener and barely lost a point on serve until 5-5. However, Francisco clinched a break in the 12th game, stealing the deal and gaining confidence. The Argentine grabbed an early break in the secon set and brought the win home.

Cerundolo claimed seven points more than world no. 2. The Argentine played well behind the first and second serve and defended the only break point to mount the pressure on the other side. Zverev served at 81% but drew nothing from that.
He played against three break points and experienced one break in each set en route to another early setback. Alexander landed only 13 service winners and stayed on six winners! He sprayed 23 mistakes, mostly from his backhand.
Francisco hit 18 winners and 27 unforced errors, outplaying the former champion in service winners and from the baseline en route to a notable win. Zverev drew the rival’s mistake in the third game of the duel and created his only break chance.
He missed a backhand and squandered an opportunity. The Argentine closed the game after three deuces, and they both served well in the upcoming ones. Alexander secured the eighth game with a service winner and held at love two games later for 5-5.
