22-Year WWE Veteran Fired Live by Saraya fka Paige

AEW star Saraya, known as Paige when she was with WWE, has had a great wrestling career. Her time in the ring was cut short in 2018 due to a neck injury sustained in 2016. After four years away, she returned to action in 2022.

During her retirement, Saraya stayed with WWE and worked non-wrestling roles. One of those roles was serving as General Manager of SmackDown in 2018. She did several memorable segments during that time including one with James Ellsworth.

On the July 24, 2018, episode of SmackDown, Saraya as acting GM after being “fired” by Stephanie McMahon earlier that year presided over a contract signing between AJ Styles and Samoa Joe ahead of their SummerSlam match.

As things heated up and Ellsworth interrupted demanding another title shot against Styles (who he’d already beaten three times), he insulted her and she didn’t take it well.

Saraya fired Ellsworth on live TV as general manager to end the segment before walking off.

It remains one of the most memorable moments from her run outside the ring that showcased how good she is at everything in WWE. James Ellsworth started his pro wrestling career back in 2002 on the indie circuit but only worked for WWE from 07/25/16 (where he debuted against Braun Strowman) until this past November when he was released following allegations of sending explicit photos/videos to an underage female fan.

Since then he’s been back in the Indies where he continues to wrestle. Most recently, Saraya made headlines again Sunday night during AEW Rampage when after defeating Nyla Rose in a match Harley Cameron told her stablemate she should use the ‘RamPaige’ finisher which is what she called her finisher while working for WWE Saraya quickly corrected her by saying, “That’s not what it’s called anymore Harley, it’s the ‘Good Knight’ now Harley, it’s been two years”.
