Alexander Zverev sweeps Roberto Bautista Agut

Alexander Zverev is off to a winning start at the Madrid Masters. The champion from 2018 and 2021 ousted Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and ten minutes, earning his 147th Masters 1000 victory and moving closer to a milestone.

The Munich champion dominated with his first serve and kept the second safe to avoid break points. Alexander kept the pressure on the other side, and the home player cracked under it. Roberto dropped half of the points in his games. 

He faced nine break points and gave serve away two times in each set to propel world no. 2 through.

Alexander landed 32 winners and 24 unforced errors. He tamed his strokes superbly while maintaining a high-pace and leaving his rival on a 4-12 ratio. The German forged a 17-7 advantage in service winners and a more narrower 32-25 lead in the baseline points. 

Zverev drew Bautista Agut’s mistake in the first game of the encounter for an early break. World no. 2 cemented the break with a service winner in game two and made another push on the return in the next one. The Spaniard netted a backhand to suffer another break and fall 3-0 behind.

The favorite held at love in the fourth game to extend the gap and landed an ace two games later for 5-1. Alexander served for the opener at 5-2 and fired an ace for another comfortable hold and 6-2 in 35 minutes. They served well at the beginning of the second set.
