Ally McCoist slams FIFA’s ’embarrassing’ refusal to ban Russia from World Cup

Rangers and Scotland legend Ally McCoist has slammed FIFA’s refusal to ban Russia from sporting competitions, describing their actions as ’embarrassing’.

FIFA announced Russia are to play all fixtures at a neutral venue without supporters, flags or anthems following the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

Under the sanction, the nation must compete as the ‘Football Union of Russia’.

But those proposals have been widely criticised, with the Swedish and Polish FA signalling that they will not play upcoming fixtures against the nation.

And McCoist says FIFA’s refusal to impose tougher sanctions is an ’embarrassment’.

‘This angers me,’ McCoist told the talkSPORT Breakfast Show.

‘It really, really angers me. Football Union of Russia? That’s the only bit they’ve got right. It’s ‘F, U, Russia’ – and that’s exactly what it should be.
