Connor McDavid Records 10th Career Hat Trick

Connor McDavid scored his first goal of the 2021-2022 season 17:29 into the first period of Saturday night’s game against the Calgary Flames. McDavid would then go on to find the back of the net two more times before this game was over. This earned him his 10th career hat trick and helped the Oilers come out on top in this matchup. Playing against the Flames all but guarantees a great night in store for McDavid. He has played Calgary 31 times in his career. During those games he has accumulated 26 goals. In fact, three out of his 10 career hat tricks have come courtesy his province rival.

Although McDavid put on quite the show, goalie Mike Smith also put on a solid performance that served as a deciding factor in this game. Smith made 45 saves on 47 shots to earn himself a save percentage of .957. The Flames outshot the Oilers in this game 47-33, so Smith’s net presence gave his team the offensive opportunity to secure a win.

Derek Ryan opened the scoring in this matchup, with his goal scored 13:08 into the first. The only other goal scorer for Edmonton in the game was Jesse Puljujarvi, who netted his shot 5:29 into the third. Along with McDavid, Puljujarvi also posted a three-point night. He picked up two assists during this matchup, in addition to his goal.

On the Flames side, Andrew Mangiapane and Elias Lindholm picked up a goal each. This game, however, was dominated by Edmonton through and through. Jacob Markstrom allowed four goals on 32 shots over the course of the night and his team leaves Edmonton with a loss.
