Malik Willis landing spots: Steelers and Falcons should show interest in Liberty quarterback in 2022 NFL Draft


We have now entered NFL Draft month, as the big day is less than four weeks away. While this 2022 class is considered to be deep in general, it’s not exactly lauded for its quarterback play. Still, there are a few prospects who have potential to be NFL standouts.

Liberty’s Malik Willis is considered by many to be the top quarterback in this class, and even if you disagree, he has the best odds to be the first quarterback off the board at -200 over at Caesars Sportsbook. He’s a dual-threat weapon who can hurt defenses with his high-powered arm or with his legs in the open field. No matter what position he’s in or whether he’s on the run outside the pocket, the ball flies out of his hand almost effortlessly. 

Willis threw for 2,857 yards, 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 13 games played for the Flames this past season. While he didn’t exactly face the stiffest competition and may be better suited to sit a year behind an established veteran at the next level, Willis is seen as the quarterback with the most “upside” — which is a characteristic most teams hold in high regard.

Our CBS Sports NFL Draft experts have Willis going as high as No. 2 overall to the Detroit Lions, and as low as No. 18 overall to the New Orleans Saints. Below, we will break down some of our best landing spots for Willis.

Let’s begin with an interesting one. The Titans should be in the market for a quarterback in this year’s draft. This signal-caller won’t start immediately, as he would serve behind Ryan Tannehill, but he would be the franchise quarterback in waiting. Depending on how Tannehill performs in 2022, he may not be waiting very long.

The Titans overcame quite a bit of adversity last season to acquire the No. 1 seed in the AFC. That speaks to Tennessee’s coaching staff and its team in general, but it’s fair to wonder if the Titans’ ceiling is limited by their quarterback play. For the most part,…
