Brendan Rodgers needs to usher out Cristiano Ronaldo if he takes over at Manchester United.
That’s the view of former West Ham forward Carlton Cole, who feels the five-time Ballon d’Or winner wouldn’t fit into Rodgers’ style of play.
United are on the lookout for a new manager after deciding to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the wake of their 4-1 defeat to Watford.
Leicester boss Rodgers and free agent Zinedine Zidane are among the top candidates said to be being considered as his replacement but prising the Northern Irishman away from the Foxes will not be easy.
However, Cole feels he could take the job and his first decision needs to be ruthless when it comes to Ronaldo.
‘Leicester fans are going to hate me for this one but I feel Brendan Rodgers could go in and I feel he would be the right man for the Man United job,’ he told talkSPORT.
‘Get rid of Ronaldo, he’s [Rodgers] going to have to usher him out.
‘The reason why, because if you have someone like Brendan he wants to build for the future.
‘They’ve got a few prospects in that team that have not even played yet, very good players, and there’s talk of Jude Bellingham coming in as well.
‘You’ve got to plan for the future – is Ronaldo the future of Man United?
‘We know how he wants to play, Brendan Rodgers, he loves the high press, he loves the high energy, working off the ball, he loves that.
‘He’ll eradicate the players that are not fitting into that formation or system, he has to otherwise he’s going against his own morals.’
Ronaldo has netted nine goals for United this season and saved his side on numerous occasions with late strikes.
