Belinda Bencic will compete in the third round of the Madrid Open. Competing in the Spanish capital for the first time in three years, the 2019 semi-finalist prevailed over an in-form Clara Tauson 7-5, 7-5 in an hour and 55 minutes.

Clara had her chances to extend the duel and chase the win. The young Dane served for the opener in the tenth game before dropping three straight games. Belinda kept her composure in two challenging service games of the second set.
