Zinedine Zidane would be a good appointment for Manchester United but he is unlikely to want to take charge midway through the season.
That’s the view of his former team-mate Geremi who believes the Frenchman would only be interested in building his own team if he took over in the summer.
Zidane is one of several high-profile names being linked with the United job should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be given the sack.
A shocking 5-0 defeat at the hands of rivals Liverpool on Sunday has heaped further pressure on him but as things stand he retains the support of the United board.
Zidane, who previously won two La Liga titles and three consecutive Champions League trophies as manager of Real Madrid, would be ready and available to take the job if United wielded the axe on Solskjaer.
But Geremi believes Zidane would want to inherit a squad he is immediately able to make changes to in the transfer window and also have an entire pre-season behind him.
‘Could he become Manchester United’s manager? Based on his ability to surprise us already, I would say wait and see,’ the former Chelsea and Newcastle midfielder told Ladbrokes.
‘At that level, with the performances that he demands, I don’t think there’s a team in world football that Zinedine couldn’t manage.
‘To manage a big club, you need a person with a big personality.
‘Someone like Zinedine, a former player at the top level, can speak to his players and relate to them.
‘He can speak to them without fear. It would be so easy for younger players in a team to receive a message from someone of Zidane’s stature.
