Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will return to Arsenal from the Africa Cup of Nations for checks after suffering Covid-related health problems, Gabon have confirmed.
The 32-year-old tested positive for coronavirus upon his arrival in Cameroon for the tournament earlier this month.
Aubameyang was then ruled out for Gabon’s first two group stage matches due to suspected heart lesions following his bout of Covid.
The Gabonese football federation have now confirmed that the striker is being allowed to return to Arsenal early on medical grounds.
Panthers manager Patrice Neveu also stated that Aubameyang and his teammate, Nice’s Mario Lemina, will return to their clubs for further assessments.
‘Since yesterday, the decision was taken to send them home to their club,’ Neveu told Goal.
‘We can’t judge it here [in Cameroon], we can’t assess the pathology of Covid here.
‘It’s important that Mario returns to Nice and Pierre returns to Arsenal.
‘It’s a decision that we’ve taken among ourselves.’
