
Liverpool’s more clinical and ruthless forwards could make the difference in the Premier League title race, believes Gary Neville, after watching Manchester City be held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace on Monday night.
City are still four points clear at the top of the table, but the Reds have a game in hand and their title hopes are very much alive after the Eagles did them a favour at Selhurst Park.
Pep Guardiola’s side dominated the game but could not find the breakthrough in south London, despite finishing the contest with 74 per cent possession and having 18 shots on goal.
It was the fourth time this season City have failed to score in a gam, while Liverpool have only drawn a blank once and Neville believes it is this that could prove the difference.
City played with a front three of Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish on Monday, players who Neville sees as much as midfielders as forwards.
‘We’re talking about fine margins when we’re talking about two great sides who are going for the Premier League title, you’re not talking about massive differences between them,’ Neville told Sky Sports.
‘There’s nothing wrong with Pep Guardiola’s team, they played a brilliant game tonight.
‘If Liverpool play that game, they win that game because they’ve got better strikers, better forwards, finishers, in terms of scoring goals. More ruthless and clinical finishers, and more of them, there’s five of them there that I’d put my money on.
‘With City, they’re more like midfield players or wide players playing in those positions.
‘Phil Foden could be a midfield player, but he’s playing centre-forward. Jack Grealish could be a midfield player, but he’s playing on the left of a three up front. Outstanding players, but they’re not…
