Cameron Norrie identifies reasons for getting ousted by Andrey Rublev

Cameron Norrie blamed the lack of energy and feeling a little bit to relaxed for his US Open exit. On Monday, Norrie exited the US Open after Andrey Rublev handed him a 6-4 6-4 6-4 defeat. Norrie is usually not a player who gives free points, but that wasn’t the case against Rublev.

Also, Norrie smashed his racket in frustration in the third set – another rare occurence when it comes to the top-ranked British tennis player. But Norrie underlined that he wasn’t taking anything away from Rublev as he acknowledged that the Russian delivered a good performance.

Norrie on losing to Rublev

“I felt like I started the match very well, very relaxed and playing good, serving well. I felt maybe a little bit too relaxed and too low on energy. I don’t know why,” Norrie explained.

“I went through a stage in the second set, I wasn’t hitting my backhand, I was missing a lot. Errors on my backhand side was not like myself. I usually can rely on that side. I felt like Andrey gave me really nothing, and he was very solid.

All credit to him. Maybe the one time I did have a chance was when I ended up throwing my racket, and I ended up getting a bit more energy and moving a lot better for the next kind of 20 minutes. That was probably the best part of the match for me.

It was good learning for me. But all credit to Andrey, he gave me nothing today and he deserved it more than me.” After reaching his first Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon, Norrie was aiming to make another really strong Major run at Flushing Meadows.

Even though Norrie didn’t make another Grand Slam semifinal, it was still a very positive campaign for him since it was the first time he had reached the second week at Flushing Meadows.
