Carlos Alcaraz credits mindset shift for Barcelona success: ‘I’m tryin

On Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz will chase his third Barcelona Open crown in the previous four editions of the prestigious event. The home favorite battled against Arthur Fils for the second straight week and performed well in a 6-2, 6-4 triumph. 

Carlos sealed the deal in an hour and 15 minutes after a rock-solid performance on serve and return. He left the young Frenchman behind and advanced to his 24th ATP final at 21! Alcaraz was pleased with his performance.

The four-time Major winner maintained a high level throughout the duel in challenging conditions and kept his serve protected, which pleased him a lot. Carlos tried to regain his positive vibes following an early Miami Open loss, which is evindent on the court.

Unlike in Monte Carlo last week, Fils stood no chance against Alcaraz in Barcelona. The Spaniard lost 14 points in nine service games and saved a lone break point to keep the pressure on the 20-year-old. Arthur cracked under it. 

The Frenchman gave away 45% of the points in his games and suffered three breaks to end his run in the semi-final. Carlos landed a 12-14 ratio and cemented his victory on the opponent’s 38 mistakes, mostly from his forehand. 

The Spaniard outplayed his rival from the baseline, building a 41-26 gap and sailing over the top. Fils sprayed errors in the third game of the match, including a double fault on a break point. Alcaraz moved 3-1 up with a forehand winner in the next one.
