Carlos Alcaraz’s celebration ends, Jannik Sinner’s comeback begins

On Tuesday, world no. 1 Jannik Sinner will step onto the court at the Monte Carlo Country Club. Two days after his great rival, Carlos Alcaraz, lifted a Masters 1000 trophy, Jannik will start his official preparation for his comeback at the home Rome Masters in May.

The Italian returned to Monte Carlo following a trip home to South Tyrol. The 23-year-old is having a day off on Monday before entering the court on Tuesday. Sinner and his team will train on the official court for the first time in over two months following his agreement with WADA.

World no. 1 has not played since defending the Australian Open title. However, his closest rivals, Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz, failed to take the ATP throne from him following inconsistent results. Thus, Jannik will return in action in Rome as the world’s best player.

Sinner enjoyed a thrilling 73-6 run in 2024. However, he tested positive for a banned anabolic steroid, Clostebol, twice in March around Indian Wells. The fans and fellow players knew nothing until August!

Clostebol reached Jannik’s body following strange circumstances! His physio used a spray containing Clostebol to treat a wound before massaging him without gloves! Jannik successfully appealed both positive tests and kept playing, becoming world no. 1 in June.

An independent tribunal convened by Sport Resolutions ruled that the Italian bore no fault or negligence. However, the case was far from over! WADA challenged the ITAI’s ruling, prolonging the final decision and keeping world no. 1 under pressure.

Jannik dealt with it superbly and lifted eight ATP trophies in 2024, leaving all the opponents far behind….
