Charlotte Flair and JD McDonagh identify different paths to career growth in WWE
Charlotte Flair and JD McDonagh occupy very different positions on WWE’s roster, but their latest interviews address the same professional challenge: how a performer continues developing after audiences already understand the basics of their presentation.
Flair is looking beyond another championship reign. McDonagh, meanwhile, believes he has reached the point where he no longer needs to display his entire move set to demonstrate his ability. Their comments describe character growth from opposite directions—one through new storytelling formats, the other through greater control inside the ring.
Flair told WFAN that winning a 15th world championship remains one of her goals. She also identified two areas WWE has not explored with her: a romantic storyline involving a male character and a defined leadership role within a faction. Her comments were independently reported by Fightful and F4WOnline.
The Four Horsewomen do not satisfy that second ambition in Flair’s view. Although she was associated with Becky Lynch, Bayley and Sasha Banks under that label, the four women were presented as individual performers rather than a stable with an established hierarchy.
That distinction matters because Flair is proposing a change in character function, not merely another opponent or championship pursuit. Leading a group would require her character to influence the presentation of other wrestlers. A relationship storyline would place more emphasis on personal interaction than on her familiar competitive credentials.
Neither idea has been announced by WWE, and Flair did not claim that either storyline is being prepared.
McDonagh’s assessment of his own development focuses on match construction.
