Manchester United hero Andrei Kanchelskis is backing his former team to pick up a huge win in the Premier League on Sunday when they welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford.

Even with home advantage it would be an upset for United to beat the Reds, with Jurgen Klopp’s side the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League.

While the Red Devils have been inconsistent so far this campaign, winning four and losing two of their first eight matches, Liverpool have been much more impressive domestically and in Europe, having picked up a memorable win at Atletico Madrid in midweek.

Despite the contrasting form of the two sides, Kanchelskis – who won the Premier League with United in 1993 and ’94 – reckons the Red Devils will beat their old rivals on Sunday afternoon, spurred on by their own Champions League success in the week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men found themselves 2-0 down at half-time against Atalanta and rallied to a 3-2 victory, which the Russian icon feels will be a springboard to more glory.

‘It’s going to be an exciting game and I think United will win,’ Kanchelskis told Casumo. ‘Firstly, the home advantage at Old Trafford will help and so will that second-half performance against Atalanta.

‘It’ll be great motivation for playing against Liverpool, which is always a passionate fixture. Maybe psychologically, Liverpool are a little better as they’ve played well in recent games, while United have dropped points against the likes of Leicester, but I still think United will get the win.

‘I hope they can carry that second-half performance against Atalanta into the Premier League and against Liverpool.’

Kanchelskis may be showing some United bias, but Liverpool hero Mark Lawrenson is less confident…
