Katarina Johnson-Thompson is on course to storm to a gold medal for England at the Commonwealth Games after another strong showing in the heptathlon.
Johnson-Thompson headed into the morning’s action with an overnight lead ahead of Northern Ireland’s Kate O’Connor.
But despite placing second behind Jade O’Dowda in the morning’s long jump event, she remains set for a gold medal ahead of her English team-mate, holding a 122 point lead with just the javelin and 800 meters events to come.

The defending champion is eyeing a return to the top as she bids for a first heptathlon title in three years.
The 29-year-old was the overnight leader at the Commonwealth Games after a solid first day at the Alexander Stadium.
The pandemic and two serious achilles and calf injuries have stopped Johnson-Thompson winning a title since the World Championships in 2019 but she is closing in on a successful defence in Birmingham.
