Stefanos Tsitsipas reacts to destroying J.J. Wolf in Acapulco

World No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas destroyed American qualifier J.J. Wolf in the Acapulco round-of-16 on Wednesday night. Tsitsipas, seeded at No. 3, handed a brutal 6-1 6-0 loss to Wolf to progress into the Acapulco quarterfinal. Tsitsipas started the match with back-to-back breaks and a 5-0 lead.
Wolf served out the sixth game to get on the board and reduce the deficit to 5-1 but the Greek routinely served out for the opener in the following game. Tsitsipas was even more dominant in the second, breaking Wolf three times to claim a convincing straight-set win.
“I would say I was patiently attacking. I wasn’t going for too much, but I also wasn’t going for too little,” Tsitsipas reflected, per the ATP website. “It felt great out there. It felt like I could control the points from both sides of the court and I felt very much in control throughout the entire match.
“I felt like my serve was working when I needed it. I just felt very comfortable with every single stroke and every single decision I had to make.”
Tsitsipas faces Marcos Giron
Next up for Tsitsipas will be another American, Giron, who surprised Pablo Carreno Busta.
Tsitsipas, 23, is aiming to win his first Acapulco title this week. Tsitsipas fell just short of winning it all in Acapulco last year as he ended runner-up in the final to Alexander Zverev. Also, Tsitsipas is aiming to win his first title since adding Thomas Enqvist to his coaching staff.
“Enqvist is an addition to my team, that’s what he is. It’s important to have a person like him on my team,” Tsitsipas said. “Enqvist has a lot of experience on the tour and I respect him a lot. The reason Thomas is here is to help me, give me another perspective and give me some ideas. I’m here to listen whatever he has to told me. We have good energy between us.”
