Jenson Brooksby wins his first match in over two years!

It had to happen in California! The Sacramento native Jenson Brooksby secured his first victory since the Australian Open 2023. Jenson entered Indian Wells with a protected ranking and ousted Benjamin Bonzi 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 in two and a half hours. 

The American overcame a slow start and prevailed in sets two and three for an emotional victory, the first in over two years! Brooksby competed at the Australian Open two years ago as the top-40 player. However, everything turned into a disaster for the promising youngster.

Struggling with wrist issues, Jenson underwent arthroscopic surgeries on both wrists within two months in 2023. While trying to take the pain away, Brooksby received an 18-month suspension for missed drug tests.

Later it got shortened to March 2024, compounded by his autism’s impact on decision-making.

Hoping for an injury-free run, Brooksby worked hard to shape up his game in the second part of 2024. Of course, the American made a challenging return after such a long break. He experienced a couple of losses before entering Indian Wells. 

Jenson kept his composure after a slow start and celebrated a much-needed triumph. Bonzi claimed two points more than his rival, which brought him nothing. Both players dropped 40% of the points in their games, and Bonzi had his chances to emerge at the top.

The Frenchman generated 15 break chances and seized four. The American converted four of eight break opportunity, including crucial ones in the closing stages of sets two and three. The home player landed 35 winners and 45 unforced errors. 

Bonzi sprayed 49 mistakes and plagued his chances despite a great resistance. Bonzi hit more service winners and had the upper hand at the net. However, Brooksby erased the…
