Eric Bischoff expresses surprising opinion on Cody Rhodes
'The American Nightmare' can be defined as the symbolic face of the Stamford company and has no intention of giving up his status to other stars, although numerous athletes want to take the scepter away from him with all their might.
The former AEW star was also a protagonist in the first part of 2026 and participated in the main event of WrestleMania 42, facing a legend of the caliber of Randy Orton in a very tough match that caused him an eye injury.
His latest match was at Clash in Italy at the end of May and ended with a controversial win against Gunther that allowed him to retain the world title. Later, Rhodes offered 'The Ring General' the chance to compete against him again on SmackDown.
In the opinion of a wrestling icon like Eric Bischoff, the WWE management should have had the courage to complete Cody's heel turn during the PLE staged in Italy.
"I'd turn Cody heel," Bischoff said on the latest edition of "83 Weeks." "Cody probably has no interest in it, I don't know if he does or he doesn't, but I'd need to hit the refresh button here. It's great and all, but it's been great and all for a long time. I need something that's a little different in order to engage. Not that it's not good, it's great. It's great business. Business-wise, it's great. Business-wise, maybe there's no reason to make any changes, and it's all about the business. It dictates what you do. But if the business is not what it once was, and there's an opportunity to light a new fire under it and create new business, I'd be all about it. Especially right now, WWE's kind of reached a flatline."
'The American Nightmare' has been performing up to expectations since the day of his WWE return in 2022, arguably starting the best period of his entire professional career.
