European Ladies’ Amateur, everything ready

In Messilä, Finland the Italian national team participates in the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship, the continental championship of the category scheduled from 24 to 27 July on the Messilä Golf course. In the team Carolina Melgrati, Alessia Nobilio, Francesca Fiorellini, Ginevra Coppa, Paris Appendino, Matilde Partele and Anna Zanusso.

The Italians are assisted by Roberto Zappa, Technical Commissioner of the National Women’s Amateur Team, and by their companion Stefano Sardi. Among the participants also Maria Vittoria Corbi.

The Spanish Julia Lopez Ramirez defends the title, who last year beat her compatriot Carla Bernat, who was absent on the occasion.

In a fied of 144 competitors, with almost all the best European players, there are numerous candidates for success, including the Italians who are all capable of competing at a high level, including Francesca Fiorellini, who placed fourth in 2023.

Two other past winners are in the field and looking for a possible encore, the Belgian Savannah De Bock (2022) and the German Paula Schulz-Hanssen (2020). Among the wide list of favorites we remember, to name a few, the other Iberians Cloe Amion Villarino, Paula Martin Sampedro, Andrea Revuelta, Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio and Rocio Tejedo, the Swede Meja Ortengren, the Swiss Yana Beeli, the English Rosie Belsham, the Irish Beth Coulter, the French Maylis Lamoure, Constance Fouillet and Vairana Heck, the Belgian Louise Cuyvers and the German Sophie Bingel.

In the event born in 1986 and now in its 38th edition, it was the German Martina Koch who inaugurated the roll of honor, who then granted an encore (1990). The Italians won it four times in an extraordinary four-year period in which Silvia Cavalleri (1996-1997), Giulia Sergas (1998) and Sophie Sandolo (1999) won in succession, who the previous year had come second, winning the only silver Italian.
