Alejandro Davidovich Fokina edges Jack Draper

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is through to the Monte Carlo Masters quarter-final. The Spaniard faced the 5th seed Jack Draper in the third round and prevailed 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 in two hours and 46 minutes for a notable win and a place in the last eight.
The 2022 finalist provided two breaks in the opening set for an early advantage. The Briton erased the deficit in the second set and saved a match point in the tie break to extend the battle and his chances. They traded four straight breaks in the final set.
Davidovich Fokina delivered another at 5-4 for his fifth Masters 1000 quarter-final, the third in the Principality. World no. 6 did not feel at his best, hitting ten double faults and spraying too many errors.

Davidovich Fokina claimed ten points more than Draper. The Briton served at 48%, spraying too many double faults and struggling behind the second serve. Jack faced 13 break points and got broken six times, three in the decider.
Alejandro gave away 41% of the points in his games. He played against 16 break points and did a marvelous job in defending 12, serving well in the closing stages and moving over the top with a decisive break.
Draper landed 32 winners and 47 unforced errors, besting the rival’s 30-57 ratio. The Spaniard had the edge in service winners and at the net, while the Briton reduced the gap from the baseline. The more experienced player made the difference in the shortest range up to four strokes.
They traded breaks at the beginning of the duel before providing four fine holds. Alejandro stepped in on the return in the eighth game and passed Jack at the net for a break at love and a 5-3 advantage. The Spaniard served for the set in game nine and faced three break points.
