Anthony Martial has refused to rule out the possibility of extending his stay in Sevilla after joining the club on loan from Manchester United.

The 26-year-old was targeted by Sevilla for a number of months and completed his move on Tuesday night, with the Spanish club covering his wages until the end of the season.

There is no option to buy on Sevilla’s part but Martial has hinted he could be interested in staying as his first-team opportunities at Old Trafford have diminished.

Much was expected of a then-teenage Martial when he completed a £36m move to United from Monaco in 2015, but he has largely flattered to deceive for the Red Devils, scoring 79 goals in 269 appearances.

Martial has barely featured this season and says Sevilla is the ‘perfect’ place for him to revive his career and ‘show what I can do’.

‘My loan move to Sevilla is valid for the next five months, until the end of the season,’ Martial said at his unveiling. ‘But you never know what happens in the future, we will see.

‘I want to play more and show what I can do. I believe Sevilla is the perfect place to do that.

‘I want to score goals, provide assists and be crucial for this team in the next five months. There are many good players at Sevilla and I want to bring my experience to the side.’

A few other clubs – including Italian side Juventus and Premier League duo Tottenham and Newcastle – are believed to have expressed interest in signing Martial before his move to Sevilla.

The Frenchman added: ‘It [the transfer talks] hasn’t been easy. But from the first day, I knew I wanted to come to Sevilla and we all worked for that to happen.

‘The coach [Julen Lopetegui] and the sporting director [Monchi] showed a strong interest in me and that’s what convinced me to come here.
