Gary Lineker has taken to social media to praise James Maddison for ‘forcing’ himself into England’s World Cup squad – lauding his performances for Leicester as ‘brilliant’.
Maddison was initially feared to be in danger of missing out on a plane ticket to Qatar – despite his scintillating season with Leicester. However, Gareth Southgate decided to reward the 25-year-old with a place in his squad.
Maddison was named alongside England shoo-in’s Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling. Callum Wilson was also named in the England forward line, however, some fans weren’t quite so pleased about his inclusion.

Lineker was thrilled by Maddison’s selection and took to Twitter – replying to the following Tweet: ’17 goals and 10 assists this year. No player deserved to be on the plane more than James Maddison!’
