Jets signing Jordan Whitehead: Former Buccaneers safety headed to New York on two-year deal

The New York Jets have been a big player during the first two days of free agency. Their activity has continued on Tuesday, as the team has come to terms on a two-year, $14.5 million deal with former Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead, CBS NFL insider Josina Anderson has confirmed.

The 47th, best player in CBS Sports senior NFL writer Pete Prisco’s list of the top 100 free agents, Whitehead spent time at both free and strong safety during his four years with the Buccaneers. A physical defender, the 5-foot-10, 198-pound Whitehead racked up 292 tackles (22 for loss), five interceptions, 25 passes defended, and two forced fumbles in 59 games with Tampa Bay. His two forced fumbles in the 2020 NFC Championship Game helped the Buccaneers defeat the Packers en route to their win over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.
