Barnet well below standard in defeat at Dagenham says boss

Bees travelled to Victoria Road occupying pole position, having taken 10 points from their first four matches of the campaign.

But they came away empty-handed on this occasion after Nicke Kabamba turned a low cross into his own net four minutes from khbrksport and Brennan felt most of his squad under-performed.

“Dagenham worked their socks off, kept going, got a little bit of luck at the end with the goal, obviously a deflection,” he told the club website.

“The first goal was always going to be important because they’re low on confidence, but as the game kept going on they seemed to grow in confidence.

“I don’t think we reached our levels, maybe that’s down to them stopping us doing that.

“I only think Danny Collinge reached the level that he has been playing at this season so far, everybody else needs to have a good look in the mirror.

“When we set standards like we have we have to adhere to them.”

In a game of few chances, Brennan felt his side could have done much better and felt they missed Callum Stead.

But he gave credit to Daggers for their performance, adding: “Today we had a lack of quality. There was a great chance, [Harry] Pritchard had an unbelievable opportunity one on one with the goalie, he’s got to score really, he’s a good finisher.

“We didn’t really muster up a lot, they didn’t muster up a lot either. They had some efforts from distance.

“The harder they worked the luckier they got in the end, we give them credit, but from the standards we’ve set ourselves, we were way off it.

“Maybe we missed Steady. I didn’t think Nicke had his greatest game, the two centre-halves handled him with ease really.

“I think Steady if we’d put him up there with Nicke maybe could’ve run the channels a bit better, that’s what Steady does.

“No excuses, the best team won the game of football and we’ve just got to move onto the next game.”
