Goldberg Reflects on Challenges During Second WWE Stint

The celebrated WWE powerhouse, Goldberg, offered open insights into the obstacles he faced while making a high-profile comeback in 2016 after staying away from wrestling for 12 years. Although he made a triumphant return to the ring and became the Universal Champion who headlined events such as Survivor Series and Super ShowDown, Goldberg spoke about some of his personal battles that took place behind the scenes.
On “Insight” podcast, Goldberg admitted that he encountered numerous injuries at an early stage when he returned for his second stint which began with his first fight against Brock Lesnar where he tore his rotator cuff.
He kept this condition a secret from Vince McMahon and other WWE top officials. “I tore my rotator cuff the first night I went back with Brock, and I didn’t tell anybody. I worked around it the whole time,” Goldberg said showing how physically demanding wrestling is but regardless one has to work through pain if they want to succeed in this sport.
Loyalty Behind Silence
Goldberg’s reason for concealing his injuries was because of deep loyalty towards WWE. “Certain situations I could work around, and certain times I couldn’t…I couldn’t lift my arm for five years, six years.
Yet, it’s one of those things where I chose to keep it to myself because if I would have said anything, God forbid I go get surgery and then Vince need me,” he explained. This hiding hurt him as not only did Goldberg try to wrestle when injured but also had to live up himself being a legend in his craft.
“Yes, it was tough because not only are you older and you’re trying to be that 300-pound behemoth that just spits nails and sh—s fire, and oh by the way you got a torn rotator cuff labrum too,” he disclosed.
