Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has named two ‘perfect’ successors to Ralf Rangnick in the Old Trafford hot-seat.
German boss Rangnick was appointed as United’s interim manager until the end of the season following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking last month.
Solskjaer spent almost three years in charge of his former club but the team failed to win any trophies during his reign and struggled this season before he was relieved of his duties.
While Rangnick has expressed interest in becoming the permanent Manchester United boss, he is instead expected to be moved into a consultancy role at the club when the Red Devils appoint a long-term manager.
A number of names have been linked with the position and Sheringham, who won three Premier League titles and the Champions League at Old Trafford, believes Mauricio Pochettino or Brendan Rodgers would be ‘quite perfect’.
Argentine manager Pochettino impressed at United’s Premier League rivals Tottenham before leaving England in 2019, and is currently in charge of Ligue 1 leaders and Champions League contenders Paris Saint-Germain.
Rodgers, meanwhile, guided Leicester City to FA Cup glory last season and also won a host of trophies at Scottish giants Celtic.
‘I think Mauricio Pochettino or Brendan Rodgers would be quite perfect for the job,’ Sheringham told the MEN.
‘Rodgers is very calm in the way that he works things for his football teams, he gets results, he wins things, he won the FA Cup last year, so he’ll be delighted with that.
‘But also the way Pochettino plays his football, the way he dictates a lot of games. He takes the game to the opposition. His teams play with an identity that you want from a manager.
