How we got here – Novak Djokovic loses appeal, out of Australian Open

Novak Djokovic will not participate in the Australian Open after a ruling made Sunday by Federal Court judges upheld a decision by the immigration minister to cancel the 34-year-old Serb’s visa on public interest grounds.
Djokovic intended to pursue a 10th Australian Open title at the first tennis major of the year, which begins on Monday. But instead of turning his attention to breaking a 20-Grand Slam singles record, the world’s top-ranked men’s player’s ongoing visa saga came to an end.
Djokovic’s visa was first canceled upon his arrival to Melbourne, Australia, when his vaccination exemption was questioned, but he has since won a legal battle on procedural grounds allowing him to stay in the country. Then, on Friday, his visa was revoked.
The latest is another twist in the saga over whether the Djokovic should be allowed to stay in Australia despite not being vaccinated and the revelation that he provided false information on an immigration form.
