‘I have had tests, let’s see’

Carlos Alcaraz has yet to train in Caja Magica ahead of the Madrid Masters! The two-time champion has been in Madrid since Monday, attending the Laureus gala dinner and doing promotional events, including his Netflix documentary.

However, he has yet to step on the court following his injury in the Barcelona Open final. Carlos chased his second title in as many weeks against Holger Rune. He suffered a 7-6, 6-2 loss, feeling discomfort in his right leg and dropping five straight games in the second set.

Carlos underwent checks on Tuesday. Based on them, he will make his decision about his Madrid Masters participation. World no. 3 hopes for a positive outcome as he wants to play in front of the home crowd.

Carlos is fine physically but he does not want to rush anything and make things worse ahead of Roland Garros. The Spaniard played in Madrid last year despite issues with his right hand. He fell to Andrey Rublev in the quarter-final and missed the Rome Masters. 

As we all know, he won the Roland Garros title a couple of weeks later, but he does not want to take the same gamble and push his body to the limits. If he gets the green light to play in Madrid, Carlos will face Zizou Bergs or Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round on Saturday.

If he decided to skip the home event, Alcaraz will have enough to recover for the Rome Masters and embrace more matches ahead of the Roland Garros title defense. The Spaniard made a strong start to the clay season.
