Emile Smith Rowe has expressed his delight at having Jack Wilshere back training with the Arsenal squad, insisting the ex-Gunners midfielder has ‘still got it’.
Wilshere, 29, is maintaining his fitness at the club’s London Colney training base while his wait to sign for a new team continues.
The former England international, who has endured a career hampered by injuries, has been a free agent since he was released by Bournemouth at the end of last season.
Since then, Wilshere has trained with Italian Serie B side Como FC, and now finds himself back at his beloved Arsenal, where he is keeping in shape and working on his coaching badges.
After coming through the north London club’s academy, the midfielder burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old and was subsequently tipped for stardom, until a multitude of injuries stifled his progress.
Wilshere is now training alongside another starlet to graduate from Hale End, Smith Rowe, who has been a shining light for Mikel Arteta’s side since breaking into the first team.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, the 21-year-old revealed that Wilshere hasn’t lost any of his technical ability.
‘It’s been good,’ Smith Rowe said. ‘Seeing him now, and getting a chance to train with him, he’s still got it.
‘His technique is unbelievable. It’s great to have him around the training ground. I am sure he will be helping me a lot.’
Smith Rowe earned the No.10 shirt in the summer following a stellar campaign, and the England Under-21 international is under no illusions when it comes to the importance of a number worn by the likes of Dennis Bergkamp, Robin van Persie, Wilshere and Mesut Ozil.
