Steve Smith has been hunting down Sachin Tendulkar’s records for years and new stats reveal that the Australian gun could be on track to better the Little Master once he calls it a day.

Smith, 32, made history last year by reaching the 7,500-run mark in his 139th Test for his country, five fewer than the total Tests it took Tendulkar to reach the same milestone. 

The Aussie vice-captain scored his 34th Test half century in Pakistan earlier this week, and now data has underlined the eerily similar records of the batting virtuosos.

According to Sportskeeda, Smith has scored 7862 runs from 148 Test innings, while the Little Master hit 7853 runs at the same stage. The pair have each hit double tons by this point, with Tendulkar scoring a then-career high of 217 runs, while Smith’s highest score is 239.

Their batting averages are razor-close, too. Smith just breaks the 60-run mark with 60.01 while Tendulkar is slightly short at 59.49 runs.
