Ralf Rangnick is ‘special’ and will reverse Manchester United’s fortunes if he is given the chance to shape the club in his image.
That’s the opinion of former Chelsea striker Demba Ba, who worked with the German during his time at Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.
Rangnick was named United’s interim manager earlier this month and he’ll take up a consultancy role at Old Trafford at the end of the season to help guide the club in the short-term.
The German will therefore be influential in the club’s decision as to who appoint for next season but his task for this campaign is far from done, with Rangnick keen to implement a new playing style at Old Trafford.
‘He will change things in the Premier League,’ Ba told the I.
‘He will 100 per cent be a success and the club will change because of him.
‘If he is given the chance to work how he wants to work, there is no doubt that he will be a special coach for them.’
Since retiring Ba has put his efforts into becoming a Director of Football and he regularly visited Rangnick at Lokomotiv Moscow to learn from the German.
Ba says Rangnick was instrumental in making him look at football in a different way and says it’s ‘scary’ how detailed the German’s understanding of the game is.
‘I’m a student of Ralf; with him it’s like I’m in the library. When he opens up, I read,’ said Ba.
‘People often say, ‘Let them do their own mistakes so they can learn’. My big problem – why do we only learn from mistakes?
‘If Ralf can save me five years by telling me, ‘There’s a trap here, there’s a trap there’, I’m going to take it. He is scary: he has so much knowledge of the game and so much energy. He never stops.
