Liverpool boss and Chelsea legend pay tribute to retiring Sergio Aguero

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Chelsea legend John Terry have paid tribute to Sergio Aguero after the Manchester City legend announced his retirement from football.

On Wednesday, Aguero confirmed at a press conference at the Nou Camp that he had to retire due to a recent heart problem.

The Argentine established himself as one of the best strikers in Premier League history during his ten-year spell at the Etihad, scoring 260 goals in 390 appearances and winning five league titles.

Aguero moved to Barcelona last summer but only made five appearances for the Spanish giants before a health scare prematurely ended his career.

Asked about Aguero’s impact over the past decade, Liverpool boss Klopp said: ‘Massive, massive impact.

‘First and foremost I really feel for the boy. He made the move to Barcelona to have another exciting chapter in his career, not to retire.

‘I really feel for him. He had a great career and there will come a moment where he sees that. But at the moment I’m sure he’s in shock but that’s the way it is.

‘The impact he had on the Premier League – on football – was incredible. The goals he scores, the importance of the goals, huge.

‘As a player I can say he was one of the best I faced.’

Former Chelsea captain Terry, meanwhile, posted on social media: ‘One of the greatest Premier League players ever. Legend.’

Explaining his decision to retire, Aguero said: ‘This conference is to communicate that I have decided to stop playing football. It’s a very difficult moment.

‘When they did the first physical test on me in the clinic, the medical staff called me to tell me there was a very big possibility that I wouldn’t be able to keep playing.
