New Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick is considering offering axed RB Leipzig boss Jesse Marsch a coaching role at Old Trafford just one day after he was sacked by the German club, according to reports.
The American coach succeeded Julian Nagelsmann at the Bundesliga outfit but managed to pick up just five wins in 14 league games and was dismissed on Sunday after just four months in charge and with the side sat in 11th place in the table.
But he could be set for an immediate return to the dugout as part of Rangnick’s new-look coaching team.
According to The Times, Marsch’s sudden availability has alerted Rangnick – who has known the 48-year-old since 2015 – and he is in contention to land a place in the United backroom team.
United’s new boss has already brought in former New York Red Bulls head coach Chris Armas to join his staff, while Sascha Lense will take up a role as sports psychologist once he has been granted a work permit.
But Rangnick still wants at least one more coach and had been interested in former Barnsley boss Gerhard Struber, who is currently in charge of the New York Red Bulls.
Marsch – who also had a stint in the Big Apple himself – would be far cheaper and easier to bring in, with Struber contracted until 2023, and he knows Rangnick extremely well.
It was the German who first employed Marsch at the New York Red Bulls six years ago, while Rangnick also took the American to Leipzig to act as his assistant during the 2018-19 season where he was tasked with organising training sessions.
