Man Utd news: Southampton’s Ralph Hasenhuttl responds to manager links

Ralph Hasenhuttl says he will ‘listen to his stomach’ as he makes a decision over his future but ‘can’t imagine having a better job’ than Southampton amid fresh speculation linking him with Manchester United.

The Austrian manager, who has largely impressed since arriving at St Mary’s in December 2018, has emerged as a candidate to take over at Old Trafford this summer.

Ralf Rangnick is currently in charge of the side but will move into a consultancy role at the club at the end of the season as United appoint a permanent replacement to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Hasenhuttl worked with Rangnick at RB Leipzig and his Southampton side are currently in the top half of the Premier League.

Discussing his future at Southampton and responding to the Manchester United links, Hasenhuttl said: ‘When this question comes up, I will listen to my stomach and say, “what is for the best?”

‘I can guarantee that in the past that has never proved me wrong and was always the right decision. There are not a lot of scenarios where I can imagine I go from here.

‘I have here everything I need as a manager. I have a fantastic team to work with, an unbelievably good atmosphere in the club, and everybody is backing and supporting me.

‘To enjoy it when things are coming together and everything is working fine is the best position to be in as a manager.

‘Me and my wife love it here. We love the people, they are so nice and friendly.

‘Everywhere I go, even when we did not have good games, they are unbelievable. I cannot imagine having a better job.’

As well as impressing in the Premier League, Southampton booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup last week with a win over West Ham.
