Man Utd players turn on ‘tactically underwhelming’ Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

A number of Manchester United’s players are now questioning whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the right man to lead the club forward following Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool, according to reports.

The Red Devils shipped four goals in a dreadful first-half display at Old Trafford en route to a 5-0 defeat that leaves the club eight points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea after just nine games.

Pressure is now mounting on Solskjaer after another disorganised showing and large swathes of fans and pundits feel the time has come for the Norwegian to step aside.

That criticism is not purely external, either, with The Guardian reporting that several members of the United squad are openly questioning whether Solskjaer can take the team any further.

While the 48-year-old is well-liked by the players, the manner of the defeat to Liverpool has ‘crystalised’ a lack of belief in the manager which had been festering since the start of the season.

Some of the players simply feel Solskjaer is not quite good enough for United – particularly in a title race with so many elite managers – and consider him to be ‘tactically underwhelming’.

Another report from ESPN goes even further, saying the players have question the manager and his team selections while away on international duty and are ‘exasperated’ by his misuse of his forward players.

United made the mistake of trying to press high against Liverpool with players ill-equipped to do so, leaving themselves exposed at the back as Jurgen Klopp’s side ripped through their defence with ease.

Asked about his approach against Liverpool, Solskjaer told Sky Sports afterwards: ‘The coaching staff are very, very good. Brilliant. I choose the way we approach the game and, today, we weren’t clinical enough going…
