Mihaela Buzarnescu pays very beautiful tribute to Serena Williams

Former world No. 20 Mihaela Buzarnescu praised the great Serena Williams for what she represented as a tennis player and as a successful woman. Williams, a former 23-time Grand Slam champion, retired from professional tennis at this past US Open.
Buzarnescu, 34, used to look up to Serena and her sister Venus Williams. “When I was small, you know, I always liked Serena Williams and I’ve always liked the way she came from nothing to achieve everything that she has achieved as a tennis player and as a woman as well,” Buzarnescu said, per Sportskeeda.
“So, I was always watching them playing her and her sister, I always told myself that if I ever have a chance to play against one of them one day, which I did against both of them and everything she achieved, her ambition and her determination on the court and off court is just amazing, what she has been doing and everything that she did so I’ve always had her as a role model when I was growing up.”
Buzarnescu clashed Serena Williams once
Buzarnescu clashed Serena Williams for the first and lone time during last year’s French Open. Buzarnescu actually performed well versus Williams as she pushed the American into a three-setter.
In the end, Williams managed to escape with a 6-3 5-7 6-1 victory. Had Buzarnescu defeated Williams, it would have certainly be among her top victories. However, it was still a good experience for Buzarnescu, who managed to win a set against the former 23-time Grand Slam champion.
Meanwhile, Buzarnescu is seemingly past her prime. Buzarnescu, who was once a top-20 player, is now the 199th-ranked player in the world. This season, Buzarnescu has been mostly playing on the lower-tier events. It remains to be seen if Buzarnescu will follow Williams and also decide to end her career in the foreseeable future.
