Novak Djokovic hits Caja Magica with Andy Murray

Three-time Madrid Masters champion Novak Djokovic is back in Caja Magica! The Serb will compete in the Spanish capital next week, embracing another quest toward the milestone 100th ATP title. Djokovic had trained in Marbella for a couple of days before heading to Madrid. 

The 24-time Major champion hit in Caja Magica on Saturday evening, guided by his coach Andy Murray who was not with Novak in Monte Carlo. Djokovic lost the Miami Open final to Jakub Mensik before experiencing an early loss in the Principality to Alejandro Tabilo.

Novak debuted at the Madrid Masters on an indoor court in 2006, winning 30 matches by 2022. He lost that epic Caja Magica semi-final to Rafael Nadal in 2009 before conquering the title two years later. The Serb skipped Madrid in 2014 and 2015.

He made a notable return in 2016, toppling Milos Raonic, Kei Nishikori and his current coach, Andy Murray, en route to his second Madrid Masters crown. Djokovic lost to Nadal in 2017 before securing the third title two years later over Stefanos Tsitsipas. 

The legend returned to Madrid in 2022 and reached the semi-final. He faced the home teenager Carlos Alcaraz, with the two rivals embracing one of the most thrillig Caja Magica encounters. They battled for three hours and 37 minutes, and Carlos prevailed 6-7, 7-5, 7-6 after an epic battle. 

The young gun lost serve once and provided two breaks from ten opportunities. Novak missed his chances in the closing stages of the second set and fell in the crucial moments of the decider to propel Carlos through. 

Alcaraz erased a 4-2 deficit in the first set and saved a set point at 4-5 to force a tie break. Djokovic stayed composed and claimed it 7-5 for a boost. The Serb…
