After abandoning WWE, Mercedes Moné has progressed to phenomenal levels in her career, winning titles in NJPW and AEW as well. She also has brought home a multi million dollar deal with AEW, expanding her portfolio even further.

In an interview for “The Breakfast Club,” Moné took the time to remember or speak on some of the events that had to do with her or contributed to shaping her career and this is what she singles out. “I feel like my biggest break happened in 2015,” Moné earliest said.

“Me and this wrestler by the Name of Bayley fought all fights. ‘Sports Illustrated’ claimed that there was no better women’s wrestling match than ours, and it’s fair to say that a lot has changed in the women’s wrestling scene ever since that match.” This historic match, which Moné later referred to as a defining moment in her career, occurred while she was in WWE NXT, where she defended the NXT Women’s Championship against Bayley at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn.

That match, she said, was a transformation in how women’s wrestling was viewed.

Career-Defining Moments

“I feel like. From that moment onwards, people’s perception of women’s wrestling seriously influenced them”. Moné explained, “It demonstrated that they had what it takes to go up against men or go even beyond that.

That match, and the audience’s response to it meant that we were able to secure the main event of the next PPV. It was phenomenal because we performed exceptionally.” Moné further stated that at that point she felt for the first time that she really “made it”.

After that history making contest, Moné and Bayley faced off in the main event of NXT Take Over: Respect 30 Minutes Iron Woman Match which found Bayley as the victor. Looking back in her career, Moné will mention yet another such pivotal moment – her bout with Bianca Belair in the main event of Wrestlemania 37.

“I have to say I feel like most of my career looks quite boring if you don’t mention those years 2020 and 2021,” Moné said….
