It is quite a three-way battle for second in the Atlantic heading into action Friday as Toronto is second with 91 points, Tampa Bay is one point back and Boston two. The Lightning have a game in hand over both teams as the fourth-place finisher gets Florida in the first round while the other two will face off against each other.
The fight in the looks to be for second place and home ice advantage in the Metropolitan between the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh with the Rangers holding a one-point lead with a game in hand.
In the West, there is a huge battle for the final five playoff spots as only Colorado, Calgary and Minnesota seem to be locks. The Kings have 84 points while St. Louis has 83, the Nashville Predators 82 and Edmonton 81. One more team from the Central will finish third and gain an automatic berth into the playoffs while two more are up for grabs in the Pacific. Add in Dallas with 79, Vegas with 78 and Winnipeg with 76 for the final two wild cards and you can see it will be another wild finish in the West.
