Rafael Nadal has many chances to win the title in Bastad

Rafael Nadal will play the ATP of Bastad next week, a useful test less than three weeks before the Paris Olympics. The Olympic tournament could be Rafa’s last big goal, because it will be played on the red clay of the French Open. The former world number 1 will play the single in Paris and the double with his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz.

hampion wanted to use his 2024 to take a farewell tour and greet fans, but injuries forced him to change his plans. The Spanish veteran had to skip Monaco and was eliminated in the first round of the French Open, but played a great match against Alexander Zverev on Philippe Chatrier.

Rafa has confessed that he feels physically better than in recent months and has not revealed an official date for his retirement, fueling the hopes of his fans around the world. Although he has made progress, the current level of Nadal still seems very far from that of the top players.

The Spaniard is unlikely to win other huge titles and the risk of new injuries is always very high. For this reason, Rafa decided to skip the Wimbledon Championships to train as much as possible on red clay. Nadal spent a period of training at his academy in Greece with Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry, before moving to Bastad and training for many hours a day. Rafa didn’t miss his training session even when a violent storm hit the city.

Rafa doesn’t have an impossible draw

The start of the Paris Olympics, scheduled from 27th July to 4th August, is fast approaching. This week there will be 4 tournaments, including 3 on red clay. Only in Newport will play on grass, which will close today its most important event, Wimbledon, with the highly anticipated final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
